I am sooo excited as the Glass Oyster photo shoot is taking place next Saturday. I'm going to be working with some fab people to create some lovely images of my headdresses. Lots of champagne (well maybe a little as we don't want the shots to be out of focus!!) and some nibbles to keep us going throughout the day. It's going to be fun and I can't wait to show everyone the results! Watch this space..................x

New Designs For Spring
Hey, it's Friday!
It's positively spring like out there and to celebrate the coming of the new season, thought I would share with you a couple of new designs for Spring.
Drum roll...................................da dah!
The Clara is simple but striking. Pair with a floaty, ethereal dress for a relaxed summer wedding look.
Emiline has a lovely vintage feel - all that beading and tulle. Would compliment a slinky satin 1930's number perfectly!

Still more to do for their other shop in York and my other lovely stockists too - but nearly there. No rest for the wicked and all that...........x

New Romantic Meets Bridal - Meet the Amazing Rebecca Avis Photography!
Hello everyone,
Hope you are all having a good day!
Today, I'd like to introduce you to an up and coming talent in the photography world - Rebecca Avis Photography. I recently had the pleasure of working with Rebecca on a bridal photo shoot with a difference. Some of my designs were included in this fab shoot - the results speak for themselves below. Don't you think the styling has a touch of the New Romantic movement of the early 80's? Or is that just me being nostalgic because that was my coming of age era? I just love the pops of colour too - you don't see that very often in wedding shoots.
I chatted with Rebecca recently about her photography business. She specialises in wedding and boudoir photography. I think you will agree that she is a talented lady, resourceful and driven by the love of her passion - photography. I have two children and find it hard to juggle everything. I have no idea how she does it with five!
How did you get started?
As I have five children and a big family I always had a camera in my hand taking family snaps all the time. Lots of people commented on how much they liked my pictures and as I have dyslexia and dyspraxia being told I was good at something gave me a huge confidence boost. So I started helping a local photographer and went on a few courses which I loved. Then people started to offer me paid work. Withing two months I had been asked to cover "The UK Top Model Awards" and a "super car show" I couldn't believe my luck. The more things I did the more I narrowed down that weddings and boudoir is what I like best. I LOVE weddings and romance so this works perfectly for me.
What sort of photography inspires you?
I enjoy other photographers the more different and inspiring the better. Not only photographers work but some of the best pictures I have seen have been from family snaps. I love pictures which tell a story or show an emotion.
What would you say is the most challenging aspect of your work?
Hmmm most challenging part of my work is "mother's of the Bride" haha! Also I try and keep my prices as reasonable as I can but I think people forget about the hours of work put into a shoot, it is not just say five hours of picture taking at a wedding, it is all the prior work and the weeks work after the big day editing and sorting through pictures etc.
What do you enjoy the most?
I know that you have a family. How do you find being a woman running her own business and raising a family?
I am a Mum of five children so running my own business works well with this. I can work the hours I want and do the jobs I want to do. I am lucky enough to have some lovely family and friends around me that have my children when I am working. I was also an Army wife (now seperated) and as a young mum (having my first at the age of 16) I wanted my children (four girls) to know your life does not have to be over - you can make something of your life and be successfull. Not many people at the age of 27 can say they run their own business. To be able to say that as a single mother of five children just shows if you want to do something badly enough you can!
Are there any tips you can give anyone who is looking to start out on their own?

What do you enjoy the most?
Wow I LOVE so much of what I do. I am a true romantic so I enjoy hearing from the couple all excited about their big day and what plans and expectations they have. Then of course the big day itself. I get the honour to not only be there to witness these events but capture the special moments aswell.
Boudoir photography is amazing - what a special time to be let into again. The ladies are normally very nervous but excited (stating they hate their pictures being taken and hate the pictures of themselves). So to see their confidence grow within minutes, them laugh and enjoy themselves and for them to leave smiling saying they had a great time and loving the pictures is just an amazing feeling.

I always feel strange giving tips when I have been asked this before as I don't feel I am in the place to give advice. What I would say is whatever you want to do, do it! No excuses, don't look back and think "what if?" I would get as much experience as possible helping someone in that trade for free and join in with some courses - there are lots to choose from. Be friendly and chat to other people that have set up their own business, especially people in the same area you are thinking of joining.
Remember - everyone has to start somewhere and no one knows everything!

Rule 42 Pin Wheel Bouquets and Designs - Beautiful alternatives to traditional flower bouquets and decoration.
Hello Everyone,
Today I thought I would share with you a designer that I discovered on Etsy. Being an avid "Etsian", I often go searching for the unusual and the different on this wonderful website (www.etsy.com). The other day I came across a shop called "Rule 42" who handmake beautiful pin wheel bridal bouquets, button holes and decorations such as garlands.
Kellee Nelson, the designer behind Rule 42 can custom make anything from a small bouquet to pin wheels, button holes and decoration for the whole wedding party and venue. She can match your colour scheme using a vast supply of the most gorgeous papers that come in many styles from vintage to modern and many hues. And the added bonus? They are much less expensive than traditional flower bouquets with a small brides bouquet starting around the £79 mark. Take a look at the images below - aren't they just beautiful? Perfect for a bride who wants something alternative for their wedding and a gorgeous keepsake!
For more information, check out Kellee's shop, Rule 42 on http://www.etsy.com/shop/rule42?ref=seller_info

Glass Oyster's New Collection for 2012
I know it's a probably a bit late now but - Happy New Year!
And with the new year, Glass Oyster has launched it's new collection for 2012. As always, the floral element is ever present, as I just love my florals, but these have been expressed in soft organza flowers and tulle rosettes as well as my usual bead work. I've particularly loved the hand beaded embroidery on some of the pieces such as Bethany, Nina and Paulette. Some of the pieces definitely have a vintage vibe such as Nina - the cocktail hat with a large, tulle bow. Others are soft, romantic pieces such as Gerty which features lace against the shimmer of mother of pearl. The collection will be available in stockists in the early spring. Take a look at the images below and let me know what you think by posting a comment. Email me if you want any further information or are interested in purchasing a piece. Gail. x
